Cormac Hicks

Chairman, (Abbadays Group)

Cormac began his tunnelling career in the early 70’s specialising in secondary lining of tunnels using the labour-intensive method of Ribs and Lagging. In his time, he has worked from pit top through to the face gaining experience and knowledge. His success led him to form his own company (C P Hicks Limited) providing the above services and expertise.

Cormac’s deserved reputation did not go un-noticed and he joined Danny Riordan and Johnny Johnson at Axial in the late 80’s as Pit Boss. He continued to work with both men at Axial and at Tunnelcraft Limited when it was formed in 1992.

Cormac was appointed Managing Director of Tunnelcraft Limited in 1995 upon the retirement of Danny Riordan. The vision and the same philosophy of delivering the very best and hardworking ethic continued under Cormac’s stewardship and he has guided the company to further success.

Since taking over as Managing Director at Tunnelcraft the company has worked on most of the major infrastructure projects in the UK. This has involved working with the world’s largest international contractors many of which have joint ventured together to deliver these large-scale projects.

Tunnelcraft has gone from strength to strength and this year will see it enter the busiest year in UK Tunnelling history. The company’s turnover will rise to £45m with a very strong pipeline of contracts in place to secure its income for the next 5 years.

Cormac is precise and professional in his delivery method, and it is this, along with his reputation for dealing with everyone fairly that has gained him a great reputation amongst his clients and employees. Below is an insight into some of major civil engineering projects Cormac has delivered as Managing Director of Tunnelcraft.

In addition to Cormac’s activities in the UK, he is also a member of a consortium of large multi-billiondollar Turkish Construction companies. He has exclusive access to the Turkish Constructors Union which co-ordinates communication throughout the network and is instrumental in enabling these large conglomerates to deliver work on the international stage where they have earned a solid reputation for delivering high quality work, on time and competitively priced.
