Project Phases & Key Components

Project Phases

_

Phase 1: Accra, Kasoa, and Tema
The first phase will connect Accra with Kasoa and Tema, creating a high-frequency hybrid commuter rail and rapid transit system. This phase also includes dedicated lines for goods transport to and from Tema Port.

Phase 2: Kumasi and Takoradi
The second phase will extend the subway network to Kumasi and Takoradi, further enhancing connectivity within the country.

Phase 3: To Be Decided
The third phase will be determined based on future needs and consultations, ensuring the project continues to meet the evolving requirements of Ghana.

Key Objectives

  • Reduce Traffic Congestion: Develop an efficient public transportation network.
  • Mitigate Flooding: Implement a robust sewage system.
  • Enhance Water Supply: Ensure a stable and clean water supply.
  • Strengthen Electrical Infrastructure: Secure a reliable power supply.
  • Support Economic Growth: Facilitate round-the-clock economic activities in Accra.

Implementation Timeline

  • Development Phase: Five years for detailed survey, design, and construction.
  • Operational Phase: 30 years and beyond with continuous maintenance and upgrades.

Comprehensive Mapping of Underground Cables and Pipes

A comprehensive map will be created for underground cables and pipes to eliminate the current norm of random digging across existing and paved roads. This map will feature color codes to identify and differentiate various utilities:

  • Red: Electric power lines, conduit, and cables.
  • Orange: Telecommunication, alarm, or signal lines.
  • Yellow: Gas, oil, steam, petroleum, or other flammable material.
  • Green: Sewage and drain lines.
  • Blue: Drinking water.
  • Purple: Reclaimed water, irrigation, and slurry lines.
  • Pink: Temporary survey markings, unknown/unidentified facilities.
  • White: Proposed excavation limits or routes.

Subway Project and Urban Mobility

The project will incorporate a significant sales team, including local university students. There is a proposal to introduce electric push bicycles for lease outside tube stations, enhancing urban mobility and reducing traffic congestion.

Road Levies and Congestion Charges

Imposing road congestion charges similar to London is proposed to reduce traffic and encourage subway use, contributing to a more efficient urban transport system.

Flood Mitigation

Separate systems are designed for floodwater and sewage water. During major floods, toxic waste can enter the storm drainage system. This project is well planned and designed to prevent this from happening, providing a safer and cleaner environment.

Business Opportunities and Revenue Generation

Ghana will benefit from having a comprehensive map of utility lines. Companies needing information on underground utilities will adhere to terms and conditions and pay fees. The project advocates for clear and enforced permissions for digging and utility installation to maintain road integrity. The MAISABBADAYS Group will liaise with the government and major telecommunications, electricity, and drinking water companies in Ghana to ensure standards are kept and generate revenue. The subway project will include empty duct piping for future cable insertion systems, which can be sold or leased.

Political and Economic Impact

The initiative is private with government enablement, irrespective of the ruling party. The project aims to provide seamless daily activities for Ghanaians and contribute to the economy. Significant investment has been made to set up the project, emphasizing its importance to the nation. It will create jobs for skilled and unskilled laborers.
